Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) About Capoeira Fitness

Q:  I have never done anything like the capoeira videos I see on-line, how could I possibly fit into this sport?  Every student begins capoeira at a unique level of ability and fitness.  Our fundamental classes are about learning basic capoeira movement, building strength and flexibility to move forward in capoeira, and developing coordination and rhythm.  At Body of Brazil our progressive curriculum leads each student on their unique path to accomplishment move advanced movement.

Q: Is capoeira good for kids? It can be amazing.  In a capoeira class kids are challenged with decision making, muscle memory development, respect and order, patience, and much more.  Kids that train capoeira for a couple of years are typically much more grounded and mature in their day to day lives.  The fitness that kids get in capoeira training also helps them excel in other sports and academics.

Q:  I haven’t worked out in a while and have some past injuries, how will I do with capoeira?  Most physical limitations adapt to capoeira movement.  Capoeira offers each student a chance to discover their potential while keeping an eye on their own personal reality.  Our beginning classes focus on flexibility exercises and muscle development that help as students advance.  Like all other activities, students must know their limitations and work to remove or reduce those limits.

Q:  Am I too old to do capoeira?  There are capoeiristas known to be well into their 80’s and others that are probably older.  In our school in Beaverton we have trained students that range from 8 to 70’s and every age group in between.  It’s not so much about age, it’s about your willingness to development and maintain your fitness as you learn the sport.
